The Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing (AISSM) at NCKU was the first university-based academy of its kind in Taiwan, established to address the nation’s growing demand for high-tech talent and the rapid advancement of semiconductor technologies in the AI era. Built upon NCKU’s strong foundation in science and engineering, AISSM serves as a dynamic platform that bridges academia and industry through flexible academic structures, the integration of industry professionals into teaching and research, and diversified training models. Its five degree programs—Integrated Circuit Design, Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology, Semiconductor Packaging and Testing, Key Materials, and Smart and Sustainable Manufacturing—span the full semiconductor value chain, with a core emphasis on cultivating “data-driven and energy-sensitive” competencies essential for future semiconductor professionals.

Beyond degree education, AISSM is strongly committed to fostering international exchange and global learning experiences, with the AISSM Semiconductor Summer School serving as a key flagship initiative. In 2025, the Summer School welcomed 86 students from 15 countries across diverse academic levels, creating a vibrant and multicultural learning environment. Building on the highly positive feedback from past participants, the upcoming program places even greater emphasis on hands-on training and interdisciplinary learning, with focused courses in integrated circuit (IC) design, semiconductor manufacturing, and advanced packaging. Through a combination of lectures, laboratory work, industry engagement, and cultural activities, the Summer School aims to strengthen participants’ technical literacy while promoting cross-cultural interaction, preparing students to thrive in a global, chip-driven, and automated society.
